A new year brings new developments. It is with great excitement that we bring you up to date on some of the exciting things that are happening at SMAT:
The first thing we praise the Lord for is our receiving our proprietary school license from the State of Michigan. This license is the first step to our program becoming accredited. This was a big first step. There will be more information on the importance of this later.
The second praise we have is a donor has made available a two for one opportunity for additional donors to give towards our capital campaign. This is very exciting due to our being pretty close to accomplishing the dream that we feel the Lord has given us for a beautiful—yet more importantly—functional facility to improve and expand the work that we feel the Lord has called us to be a part. This is quite exciting and a great opportunity for new donors.
The third praise we have for the New Year is we were able to get our first submission out to the accreditation commission this week. Again, having the license from Michigan in hand was a big step in getting this milestone accomplished. Becoming accredited opens up the doors to the school being able to continuously improve its quality of training and ensure that we are teaching from the latest techniques. It also makes available to students various scholarships and other funding sources that are not now available. This again is a very big step for the school.
The final praise that we would like to bring you up to date on is the choosing of a new Chairman of the Board of Directors. At our annual board meeting Marv Tyler was voted in as the new Chairman of the Board. We are excited to have Marv as the new chair and look forward to where the Lord leads the school under his vision. That being said we also owe a bundle of gratitude to our former Chairman of the Board, Howard Van Horn. Howard has led the school through its growth to maximum classes and a move to our new Ionia facility. Howard has also been instrumental in keeping the youth involved in the aviation camps each summer and his efforts are paying great dividends by the fruit being shown in the youth who have graduated from the program. Howard will continue to serve on the board, just in a more restful position. Howard we each thank you for your hard work and service and pray that the Lord continues to bless you richly.
